The Story of a Television Show: The Block

When I travel, I get excited to go to local supermarkets and farmer’s markets and spend an unhealthy amount of time thinking about not only where I’m going to eat, but where I will be eating after that meal.

So, when it came time to think of a television show idea for the place I live, there was a clear neon sign in my head. I wanted to tell the story of a neighborhood through the restaurants and people that are found along one block. The idea for The Block — a three-episode run began this month on Kansas City Public Television — came to me two years ago. We filmed the pilot in 2018 and shot two new episodes this spring and summer.

And now Kansas City has a new food television show — the kind that locals and folks visiting the city — could watch to discover just how they could eat their way across this fair city. It’s exactly the kind of thing I’d want before I came to KC. It’s a beautiful show — shot by KCPT and the folks at G10 Creative — and I’m proud of the work that went into making it. Just a friendly warning: there are so many lovely runny eggs.
